MARVILLA (MARVI) DAVIS
Raised in Whitefish, Montana, and recently returning to the state after 40 years in Alaska, Marvi Davis is a musician of extensive experience and depth in the choral arts. She attended St. Olaf College, Northern Montana College, and the University of Alaska Fairbanks receiving degrees in Music and Biology and a MA in Music/Vocal Performance. She has 25 years experience teaching elementary, middle school, and high school band and choir in the public school systems in Saco, Montana, and Fairbanks, Alaska, and 22 years of university level experience at the University of Alaska Fairbanks teaching voice and directing choral ensembles – including the nationally recognized Alaska Chamber Chorale. She was also a member of the faculties of the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival and the UAF Fine Arts Music Camp.
Over the course of her career, Marvi has been a frequent soprano soloist and recitalist with many Fairbanks ensembles and orchestras, as well as giving recitals in Washington and Montana, and has sung significant roles in over 12 operas. She is a member of the American Choral Directors Association, National Association for Music Education, and the National Association of Teachers of Singing.
Marvi summarizes her philosophy regarding choral music as follows: “After many years of teaching band and choir, I was given the opportunity of working solely with singers, and found my passion. The voice is the purest expression of human musicality, and singing is natural for all of us. When we join our unique individual voices together in song, we experience an almost incomparable joy which we enjoy sharing with others.”
